WTA Palermo Open Day 2 Predictions Including Martina Trevisan vs Elina Avanesyan

Martina Trevisan 2022 French Open

WTA Palermo, the tournament where tennis restarted back in 2020, is back for its 33rd edition. First-round action is set to continue on day two as some of the top seeds are in action. We here at LWOT will preview and predict every match. Who do you think will win?

WTA Palermo Day 2 Predictions

Jaimee Fourlis vs Yulia Putintseva

Head-to-Head: first meeting

#2 seed Yulia Putintseva will take on Lucky Loser Jamiee Fourlis in Round 1 in Palermo. Putintseva is currently ranked 108 spots higher than the 22-year-old Australian. She also has proven to be a much better clay court player. She should roll in this match.
Prediction: Putintseva in 2

Chloe Paquet vs Caroline Garcia

Head-to-Head: Garcia leads 3-1

In an all-French showdown, Chloe Paquet and Caroline Garcia meet in Round 1 in Palermo. Garcia, the #5 seed, has won three of the four previous meetings against her compatriot. Garcia had a very strong grass season and is starting to rally into some solid form. I see her winning this match and having a strong back-half of 2022.
Prediction: Garcia in 2

Lucia Bronzetti vs Xiyu Wang

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Lucia Bronzetti and Xiyu Wang square off in Round 1 at Palermo in what is a matchup of two young up-and-coming players. Both Bronzetti and Wang are established ITF players looking to make a name for themselves on the WTA tour. Wang is 23-9 on the clay this season and seems to excel on courts she can really dig her heels into. Although Bronzetti will have the backing of the home fans, I see Wang advancing through.
Prediction: Wang in 2

Lauren Davis vs Diane Parry

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Veteran American Lauren Davis is set to take on 19-year-old Frenchwoman Diane Perry. Perry, who has transitioned her focus to tour-level tournaments this season, has struggled to find consistency in 2022. The same can be said for Davis, who holds a 2022 record of 18-16. I slightly favor the young Frenchwoman in this match because of the clay-court proclivity she has shown on the ITF circuit.
Prediction: Parry in 3

Martina Trevisan vs Elina Avanesyan

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Martina Trevian is the #1 seed in Palermo as she chases her second career WTA title. Her Round 1 opponent, Elina Avanesyan, is just 19 years old but has shown a proclivity to the clay. She spends most of her time playing clay court tournaments and holds a professional record of 89-42 on the surface. With that said, Trevisan is 15-6 on the clay this season, including a title in Rabat. I think the young Russian will push Trevisan, but I do not see her finding a way to win this match.
Prediction: Trevisan in 3
