ATP Newport Day 3 Predictions Including Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Jason Kubler

Jason Kubler

Day 3 at Newport will be packed full of exciting action, including the debut of the #1 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, who will be trying to rebound after crashing out of Wimbledon in the first round. We also have predictions for matches featuring Andy Murray and Jack Sock.

ATP Newport Day 3 Predictions

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Jason Kubler

Head-to-head: first meeting

The two players had completely different campaigns at Wimbledon: Felix was rightly billed as one of the tournament favorites but was upset in the first round by an on-fire Maxime Cressy; meanwhile, Kubler had the best tournament of his heavily injury-plagued career. Felix is still easily the better player overall and favored here, but Kubler should not be underestimated on this surface: just like at Wimbledon Felix drew arguably the toughest unseeded opponent possible in his first match.

Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 3

Peter Gojowczyk vs John Isner

Head-to-head: Gojowczyk 1-0 Isner

At Wimbledon, John Isner might have lost in the third round but he achieved two important milestones: he beat Andy Murray for the first time in nine meetings and he became the all-time ace recordist, surpassing Ivo Karlovic. Now at 13750 aces, Isner returns to a venue where he has been a champion four times and he’s sure to keep firing aces this week. Gojowczyk is an opponent who can be troublesome on his day, but who is mostly out of his depth at ATP level and shouldn’t be able to stop Isner here.

Prediction: Isner in 2

Benjamin Bonzi vs Christopher Eubanks

Head-to-head: first meeting

Bonzi has been having a very decent grass season, with two of his three losses coming against a top 5 player in Stefanos Tsitsipas. He should have too much for Eubanks and comfortably make it through to the next round here.

Prediction: Bonzi in 2

Jiri Vesely vs Steve Johnson

Head-to-head: Vesely 1-1 Johnson

Both players lost in the third round at Wimbledon in disappointingly one-sided fashion, but they still had good campaigns all things considered. Vesely has had another great moment this season with his win over Djokovic in Dubai and subsequent run to the final, but inconsistency has been the dominant theme for both players. On grass Vesely might have the slight edge but there’s really not much to choose between the two players.

Prediction: Vesely in 3
