Our second set of WTA Bad Homburg day 4 predictions features the likes of Bianca Andreescu and Angelique Kerber. Both are stars of the women’s game looking to find that level that saw them to Grand Slam titles in the past. A deep run here would certainly help their confidence ahead of Wimbledon next week. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how they and the rest of the field should fair in Thursday’s action. Please feel free to comment you thoughts and views below if you’ve got anything you would like to add or discuss.
WTA Bad Homburg Day 4 Predictions
Alize Cornet vs Tatjana Maria
Head-to-head: 3 – 0 Cornet
Alize Cornet finally scored a win against Anna Kalinskaya in her last match. However, the French star has done little on the tour outside of her quarterfinal run at the Australian Open. There are even rumours that she may retire at the end of the year. Nonetheless, she is still capable of some superb tennis when in full flow and should prove a real handful for Tatjana Maria. The German made this round on the back of a gutsy win against Anastasia Potapova in the last round. These two last met in 2018 so there is much as far as recent encounters go. However, all three previous meetings went the distance and I expect this to be a similarly close affair. Cornet looked convincing in her last match and on that basis I give her the edge in this one.
Prediction: Cornet in 3

Angelique Kerber vs Lucia Bronzetti
Head-to-head:
This should be a relatively one-sided affair. Lucia Bronzetti has played exactly three matches on grass at ITF level or higher. Granted she’s gone 2-1 in those matches, but that record pales in comparison to the monster 75-23 record Kerber has amassed since 2010. That win/loss includes three seasons of ten or more wins on grass. It also includes a Wimbledon title as well as Birmingham and this very tournament last year. The German was emphatic in her dismissal of Anastasia Gasanova in the last round. By contrast, Bronzetti fought hard to put away Kaja Juvan in her first round match. Kerber is a different calibre of player, particularly on this surface, and should move on to the quarterfinals at the end of this one.
Prediction: Kerber in 2

Bianca Andreescu vs Katie Swan
Head-to-head:
The Andreescu freight train that crashed through the tennis world in 2019 appears to be moving once again. It’s certainly nowhere near top speed, but there are signs that a storm of Canadian tennis excellence may be brewing once again. Andreescu narrowly lost out to Karolina Pliskova in the second round in Berlin in a match she really should have won. Pliskova is a top six player and looked helpless at times when Andreescu was playing at her best. If the Canadian can build on that and find the ruthless edge that saw her win so many tight matches in 2019 then she could well be on the rise again soon. A good run in Bad Homburg would certainly help, but first she must beat Katie Swan. The Brit scored a surprising win against Sloane Stephens in the last round. That being said, she simply doesn’t have the level needed to trouble Andreescu. This match is on the Canadian’s racket and I expect her to win it easily enough.
Prediction: Andreescu in 2
