French Open Day 2 – Women’s Best Bets Featuring Viktorija Golubic vs Katie Volynets

Viktorija Golubic in action ahead of the WTA Chicago Open.

First round action continues on Monday, Day 2 at the French Open, with another busy day scheduled at Stade Roland Garros. Ons Jabeur and Garbine Muguruza were a couple of notable losers on day one of the tournament, which seeds will follow the same path on Sunday? Let’s take a look at some of the potential best bets of the day.

French Open Day 2 – Women’s Best Bets

Elena Rybakina vs Arantxa Rus

Elena Rybakina still seems vulnerable on a clay court; I’m not convinced she should be starting as such a strong favorite in these types of matchups. Arantxa Rus is very experienced and loves playing on the clay. It’s true that Rus does the majority of her damage at the lower levels and isn’t in the greatest of form at the tour level, but I think she’s a legitimate chance in this matchup if Rybakina isn’t having a great day. Interestingly, Rybakina was beaten by Jil Teichmann in Madrid and Rome, another left handed opponent that poses a somewhat familiar threat to that of Arantxa Rus on this surface. Some value with Rus at these high odds.

Viktorija Golubic vs Katie Volynets

Quite surprised that Viktorija Golubic isn’t a stronger favorite against Katie Volynets. Golubic is an experienced competitor and is especially effective on clay. Volynets is a player on the rise but lacks experience at this level. Volynets has been playing the majority of her tennis at the ITF level where her results are good but not spectacular. Golubic’s recent form isn’t good, but I think the odds are giving that too much thought. The Swiss player is better than her recent results suggest, especially on a clay court. I see some value with Golubic, I’d expect her to get the job done in this matchup.

Recommended Selections:
Viktorija Golubic ML – 1.5 units @ -114

Recommended selections are based on a 5-unit betting system where 1 unit is a minimum stake, and 5 units is the maximum stake.
