The action is heating up at the Foro Italico with third round matchups taking place on Day 4 of the WTA 1000 level Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome. There are numerous inserting matchups to look at including Maria Sakkari vs. Cori Gauff and Ons Jabeur vs. Yulia Putintseva. Let’s take a closer look at those matches and a couple of others and try to find the best bets of the day from the Italian capital.
WTA Rome Day 4 Best Bets
Jil Teichmann vs. Elena Rybakina
Jil Teichmann easily defeated Elena Rybakina 6-3 6-1 in Madrid last week. Teichmann stills heads into this clash as a slight underdog, despite the surface in Rome being even more favourable for the Swiss player. In theory the quicker courts in Madrid should have given Rybakina a greater chance in this matchup. Teichmann’s game is better suited to the traditional red clay courts in Rome, I’d have her as the slight favourite heading into this match given these factors. Some value there as the underdog.
Recommended Selections:
Jil Teichmann ML – 1.5 units @ +114
Bianca Andreescu vs. Petra Martic
I’m liking Bianca Andreescu in this matchup. Petra Martic is having a nice week, but I don’t think she will enjoy this matchup. Martic relies on her versatility and unorthodox style to throw her opponents off her game. I don’t think that’s going to work against Andreescu who has the versatility and power of her own to counteract Martic’s weapons. Andreescu is building into some top form, the type of form that makes her very hard to beat.
Recommended Selections:
Bianca Andreescu ML – 1.5 units @ -176
(4) Maria Sakkari vs. (15) Cori Gauff
I’m expecting Maria Sakkari to extend her 3-1 head-to-head record over Cori Gauff. Sakkari is the more complete player and I believe she has a greater edge in this matchup than the odds are suggesting. Something pretty drastic has to happen for Sakkari to lose in this matchup given she does almost everything better than her opponent. Sakkari looked good in her opening match of the week where she easily defeated a previously in-form Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3 6-2. Odds look appealing enough.
Recommended Selections:
Maria Sakkari ML – 1.5 units @ -155
(9) Ons Jabeur vs. (Q) Yulia Putintseva
Ons Jabeur is on a roll. The Tunisian is on an 8-match winning streak having arrived in Rome fresh from capturing the biggest title of her career in Madrid. However, all good things must come to an end. I think there’s a decent chance this is the matchup that causes Jabeur problems against Yulia Putintseva. Jabeur must be beginning to fatigue after a draining couple of weeks, facing Putintseva on a clay court in a situation like that isn’t ideal. Putintseva has momentum on her side after a confidence boosting win over Garbine Muguruza in the previous round from a set and a break down. Putintseva’s movement and versatility take away some of the main strengths Jabeur has. Worth a shot.
Recommended Selections:
Yulia Putintseva ML – 1.5 units @ +270
Recommended selections are based on a 5-unit betting system where 1 unit is a minimum stake, and 5 units is the maximum stake.
