WTA Madrid Day 2 Predictions
Oceane Dodin vs Elena Rybakina
Head-to-head: Rybakina leads 1-0
Both players are coming in with similar form. But with Dodin coming in as a qualifier, she already has had a ‘feel’ of the conditions here in Madrid and could use this experience to beat Rybakina. This will be a good match to watch, and perhaps Dodin, the qualifier, coming through.
Prediction: Dodin in 2
Sloane Stephens vs Anhelina Kalinina
Head-to-head: Stephens leads 1-0
Stephens has struggled the last few months, she did win a title earlier this year but has failed to gain any further ground after that. On the other hand, Kalinina has made some good progress recently, so expect a close match between the pair. Maybe Kalinina causes an upset set.
Prediction: Kalinina in 3
Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Head-to-head: Pavlyuchenkova leads 3-1
Pavlyuchenkova has yet to play a match since the Australian Open in January and could be rusty coming in to Madrid. This will be a close battle as Sorribes Tormo has had matches on clay already this year which will be prove to be advantageous. Maybe another upset here.
Prediction: Sorribes Tormo in 3
Maria Sakkari vs Madison Keys
Head-to-head: Sakkari leads 2-0
Keys has yet to win a set off Sakkari in their last two appearances, so there is something about Sakkari’s game that the American does not seem to like. But this will be their first meeting on clay, and given Keys is a decent player on clay, this could be a great three set match with Keys taking it out this time round.
Prediction: Keys in 3
