Thursday sees the final three matches of the round of sixteen take place in Bogota. The tournament has seen several upsets so far and only two seeds remain. That number could become zero as both the one and two seeds are in action on Thursday. Tournament favourite Camila Osorio will be hoping to defend her maiden WTA title this week while Beatriz Haddad Maia looks best placed to upset that narrative. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how things should play out on Thursday in our WTA Bogota Day 4 Predictions.
WTA Bogota Day 4 Predictions
Suzan Lamens vs Irina Maria Bara
Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Lamens
Suzan Lamens looks to be favourite in this match, if not for the whole tournament. The Dutch youngster is currently on an eight match winning streak on clay. That run includes a W25 title in Medellin last week. In that tournament Lamens dismissed Irina Maria Bara in straight sets. Given the level of the Dutch starlet this week, it’s hard to see that outcome changing here. This will likely be a close match as Bara has looked good so far this week. However, I expect Lamens to continue her winning ways at least once more here in Bogota.
Predictions: Lamens in 3
Kamilla Rakhimova vs Beatriz Haddad Maia
Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Haddad Maia
Kamilla Rakhimova will do well to get anything out of this match. The Russian lost to Haddad Maia in straight sets earlier this year in Doha in conditions she will much prefer to those in Bogota. The Brazilian went 30-10 on clay last year and has five ITF titles on the surface. That being said, Rakhimova has shown promise on the surface and is still a young and talented player with a bright future. She may be able to keep this closer than their encounter in Doha was, but I don’t think she is comfortable enough on clay yet to win this one. Back Haddad Maia to continue her stellar year here.
Prediction: Haddad Maia in 3
Camila Osorio vs Ipek Oz
Head-to-head: First meeting
Osorio was less than convincing in her first match here in Bogota. The Columbian benefitted from a retirement to make it through after being taken to a decider by Ylena In-Albon. Still, we cannot discount the fact that she is a superb clay court player who is playing in a tournament she enjoys in her home country. Those are some significant factors in her favour. Another advantage for her is a kind draw. She faces another relative unknown here in Ipek Oz. The Turk has never been inside the top 250 in the world which makes her a massive underdog here. However, that does give her the freedom to play with no fear which is always dangerous. I can’t see her pulling off an upset here, but if Osorio Serrano doesn’t raise her level this could well be closer than expected.
Prediction: Osorio Serrano in 2
