WTA Charleston Day 3 Predictions Including Leylah Fernandez vs Magda Linette

Leylah Fernandez French Open

Day 3 at the WTA event in Charleston will see a lot of exciting action, with many tight matches in prospect. One of the biggest names in action will be last year’s US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez. As always, we at LWOT will provide previews and predictions of the other WTA matches on Day 3 as well, split between two other articles. One features Belinda Bencic vs Linda Fruhvirtova, and the other features Aryna Sabalenka vs Alison Riske.

WTA Charleston Day 3 Predictions

Coco Vandeweghe vs Lauren Davis

Head-to-head: Davis 2-0 Vandeweghe

Vandeweghe is a former Top 10 player and Grand Slam semifinalist but her best days are sadly far behind her. Davis has hardly been on fire herself, but she still comes into this match as a clear favorite and should prevail here, as she did (in straights) when they faced at this very tournament last year.
Predictions: Davis in 2

Yulia Putintseva vs Amanda Anisimova

Head-to-head: first meeting

On paper, this matchup couldn’t be any more even. It’s the World #46 vs the World #47 and they’ve never faced before. However, Putintseva seems to be stagnant while Anisimova is young and up-and-coming and seems to have far more upside. She hasn’t been playing very well lately, but she had a great campaign in Australia, only losing to eventual champion and now-retired Ash Barty. She should be able to win this match and continue to climb up the rankings.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2

Zheng Qinwen vs Ekaterina Alexandrova

Head-to-head: first meeting

This should be a very tight matchup; Zheng is on the rise, but has struggled so far this season, while Alexandrova has been playing well but getting some rough draws after the Australian Open. Zheng might start as a very slight favorite, but it could genuinely go either way.
Prediction: Zheng in 3

Leylah Fernandez vs Magda Linette

Head-to-head: Fernandez 1-0 Linette

After the high of last year’s US Open final, the young Canadian hasn’t really had much success this season in the biggest tournaments, especially at the Australian Open where she lost in the first round. A title in Monterrey has been the highlight of an otherwise disappointing season so far. She should still have enough to prevail over Linette, who has been struggling to strings win herself.
Prediction: Fernandez in 2
