ATP/WTA April 6 Best Bets – Featuring Rebecca Peterson

Rebecca Peterson AO 2021

The clay court season officially begins this week with a pair of ATP 250s in Marrakech and Houston, as well as the WTA 250 level event in Bogota and the WTA 500 level Charleston tournament on green clay. With so much action across the globe, let’s try to narrow the focus to some of Wednesday’s best betting options across all tournaments.

ATP/WTA April 6 Best Bets:

ATP Marrakech R1: David Goffin vs. Damir Dzumhur

David Goffin’s recent struggles have been well documented. Those struggles simply can’t continue, the Belgian is too good for that. An opening round clash with Damir Dzumhur in Marrakech presents as a good opportunity to start to turn things around. Dzumhur’s recent form is equally poor, and clay is his worst surface. Goffin is very capable on clay, perhaps a switch to the red dirt will help inspire a form reversal as it will force him to play more disciplined tennis. Goffin is a better player than Dzumhur in all aspects of the game, especially on a clay court. It would be very disappointing if Goffin doesn’t win this match, I think his odds are inflated enough due to his recent poor form to suggest a play in a match he should be winning comfortably.

Recommended Bets:
David Goffin ML – 1.5 units @ -200

WTA Charleston R2: (9) Madison Keys vs. (Q) Ulrikke Eikeri

Madison Keys will make her clay court debut for season 2022 with a second round meeting against Norwegian qualifier Ulrikke Eikeri in Charleston. If ever Eikeri can challenge Keys, it’s now. There’s an opportunity for Eikeri to catch Keys cold. Keys received a bye in the opening round, whilst Eikeri has already won three matches this tournament, this gives Eikeri an edge heading into this clash. The American’s form in general has deteriorated in recent times after a stellar start to the season headlined by a semifinal berth at the Australian Open. Most recently Keys was upset by Anhelina Kalinina in her Miami opener. Eikeri plays the vast majority of her tennis on clay and should be solid enough given the circumstances to push the total games over the lowly lines that are set for this match. Seems like a safe play. The odds for Keys are so ridiculously low, a small shot at the Eikeri money line is even worth a shot.

Recommended Bets:
Total games over 16.5 – 2 units @ -193
Ulrikke Eikeri ML – 0.5 units @ +986

WTA Bogota R2: (3) Rebecca Peterson vs. (Q) Tatjana Maria

Rebecca Peterson looks like another relatively safe option as she takes on Tatjana Maria in the second round in Bogota. This is simply a bad matchup for a vulnerable Maria. Peterson plays her best tennis on clay and is primed for a good run in Bogota after a cruisy opening round win. Maria is probably already running on fumes after three wins this tournament, the 34-year-old is well beyond her prime and is especially vulnerable on clay. Maria relies on her versatility and ability to move up the court to protect her vulnerable one-handed backhand. That will be hard to achieve on a clay court against Peterson who has a heavy forehand to expose the weaknesses in the Maria game. I expect Peterson to win this comfortably, at least one one-sided set is likely.

Recommended Selections:
Rebecca Peterson ML – 1.5 units @ -263
Rebecca Peterson -3.5 game handicap – 1 unit @ -141

Recommended selections are based on a 5-unit betting system where 1 unit is a minimum stake, and 5 units is the maximum stake.
