WTA Dubai Day 2 Predictions Including Elina Svitolina vs Mayar Sherif

WTA Dubai is in full swing, with eleven matches taking place on Tuesday. Several top seeds are in action which should make for some exciting tennis. We’ve taken a loot at four of the matches in question in our other set of WTA Dubai day 2 predictions so be sure to check those out as well. With that in mind, let’s get stuck into the three matches featured in this set.

WTA Dubai Day 2 Predictions

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Varvara Gracheva

Tomljanovic makes the main draw as a lucky loser after she was dismissed in straight sets in the last round of qualifying. She faces Gracheva in her first round match. The Russian advanced through qualifying and continues to look promising this year. Gracheva had a breakout year last year and appears to have carried that form over into 2022. By contrast, the Aussie has done little of note so far this year and was disappointing in her last match. Expect the Russian to move on here.

Prediction: Gracheva in 2

Marketa Vondrousova vs Danielle Collins

This is a relatively straightforward call given the form of these two players in 2021. Collins has been on an absolute tear so far this year. The American made her first Grand Slam final in Melbourne two weeks ago and showed she is a real force to be reckoned with. By contrast, Vondrousova is still searching for her best tennis after injuries curtailed her in 2021. Collins simply has too much power for the Czech and should be able to muscle her way through this one. That is particularly true on these courts which favourite her aggressive brand of tennis.

Prediction: Collins in 2

Elina Svitolina vs Mayar Sherif

I like Sherif for the upset here. Svitolina has been slipping slowly for a while now and looks well off the pace this year. The Ukrainian is a former top five player but has never truly established herself as elite the way the likes of Osaka and Barty have. By contrast, Sherif is a talented up-and-comer on the tour who plays aggressive tennis and will have nothing to lose here. That is a dangerous combination that I think will catch Svitolina off guard.

Prediction: Sherif in 3
