ATP Marseille Open Day 2 Predictions

Pierre-Hugues Herbert vs Mikhail Kukushkin

Head to head – Herbert 1-1 Kukushkin

Pierre-Hugues Herbert loves playing in Marseille. The Frenchman serve heavy game style complements the fast courts and it’s a deadly combo to say the least. He’s already beaten Mikhail Kukushkin here a couple of years ago and again most recently in qualifying in Montpellier this year. Kukushkin doesn’t possess the weapons required to neutralise Herbert and that’ll be his downfall.
Prediction: Herbert in 2

Alexei Popyrin vs Roman Safiullin

Head to head – First Meeting

Roman Safiullin was unheard of before 2022 season began but the Russian captivated tennis audiences with his performance at the ATP Cup. Alexei Popyrin has had a dismal 2022 so far, and even though his aggressive play should suit the court conditions better, the Russian should be the one more consistent.
Prediction: Safiullin in 3

Hugo Gaston vs Corentin Moutet

Head to head – First Meeting

This is a tough one to pick. Hugo Gaston is a surprising player at times to watch given his propensity for drop shots and yet he somehow makes it work for him. Corentin Moutet had a good start to 2022 but has since tapered off a but. The battle of the Frenchmen should be an exciting one with plenty of variety about it. Gaston won’t change his gameplay and Moutet is sprightly enough to counter it.
Prediction: Moutet in 3
