Australian Open Day 1 Predictions Including Reilly Opelka vs Kevin Anderson

Reilly Opelka ATP Sydney

Reilly Opelka vs Kevin Anderson is a battle of two of the best servers on the ATP Tour on day 1 of the Australian Open. Our panelists have predictions for every day 1 match in Melbourne including matches featuring Matteo Berrettini and Fabio Fognini.

Reilly Opelka vs Kevin Anderson

Damian Kust: Big-serving galore here but after reaching the semifinals at Sydney, Reilly Opelka should be in better match rhythm. Even in his prime, Kevin Anderson somehow never performed his best in Australia, not going past the fourth round. Opelka in 4

Yesh Ginsburg: I don’t know how to predict this. Every set should be a tiebreak. Flip a coin for who wins. Opelka in 5

Oscar Otte vs Chun-Hsin Tseng

Damian: Is Chun-Hsin Tseng finally going to follow up on his success in the juniors? His maiden Challenger title in December saw him play at a level he never touched in his pro career before. Hard to say if it will persist, for now, Oscar Otte should be able to capitalize on a good draw in faster conditions. Otte in 4

Yesh: Otte has a massive serve and played well last year. That should be enough. Otte in 3

Carlos Alcaraz vs Alejandro Tabilo

Damian: Alejandro Tabilo is probably one of the most dangerous qualifiers and really drew the short straw with Carlos Alcaraz here. There’s some degree of uncertainty regarding the Spaniard as it’s his first match since contracting COVID-19 recently, but the best-of-five format grants you time to shake off the rust. Alcaraz in 4

Yesh: Alcaraz is a rising star, and proved it by dominating the NextGen Finals last year. This shouldn’t be too much trouble for him. Alcaraz in 3

Yannick Hanfmann vs Thanasi Kokkinakis

Damian: Thanasi Kokkinakis has been fabulous since the start of the season and the Australian should manage to keep it going. The only concern could be fatigue, coming from the fact that he’s already played nine matches since the start of January. Kokkinakis in 4

Yesh: Thanasi Kokkinakis picked up the first title of his career last week. He’s finally healthy and in good form. I’m excited to see what he can do. Kokkinakis in 3
