Australian Open Day 1 Predictions Including Rafael Nadal vs Marcos Giron

Rafael Nadal Melbourne Summer Set

Rafael Nadal remains in the hunt for more Grand Slam titles and looked well prepared to compete for the Australian Open during the warm up tournament phase, now his opening match in Melbourne will be against Marcos Giron. We have predictions for every day 1 Australian Open match including Feliciano Lopez and Alexander Zverev’s match.

Rafael Nadal vs Marcos Giron

Damian Kust: Despite winning an ATP title this year already, Rafael Nadal is yet to be properly tested. While Marcos Giron is playing the best tennis of his career right now, we might have to wait for a little bit longer to see the Spaniard really having to dig deep. Nadal in 3

Yesh Ginsburg: Marcos Giron is a pretty decent player, and could have won a few matches with a better draw. He didn’t get a better draw. Nadal in 3

Federico Delbonis vs Pedro Martinez

Damian: Federico Delbonis hasn’t won a hard-court match (other than at the ATP Cup against two players ranked outside the top 350) in almost two years and even though is a pretty favorable draw, Pedro Martinez is still a superior player on this surface. Martinez in 4

Yesh: Martinez has been an impressive player for a little while now. Especially off clay, I’d expect him to be better in this match. Martinez in 4

Sam Querrey vs Lorenzo Sonego

Damian: Sam Querrey looked lost last time we saw him (Indian Wells). His form is a big question mark, but we can assume that someone who established himself as a top 30 player should be solid enough to beat the rusty American, even if his serve is firing. Sonego in 4

Yesh: Querrey’s form is always a question, but he has a massive serve and forehand, and he brings his best for the biggest events. Querrey in 4

James Duckworth vs Adrian Mannarino

Damian: Both are yet to win a set this year, but the advantage should be on James Duckworth’s side. The Australian will have the crowd behind him and had a much stronger finish to 2021. Duckworth in 4

Yesh: Duckworth always plays well in this part of the world, but Mannarino is a better player in just about every aspect of the game. Mannarino in 3
