Day 2 in Adelaide saw several upsets take place which threw our WTA Adelaide 2 day 2 predictions out the window. Nonetheless, the results do give us a clearer picture of who is truly in contention for the trophy here. The front runner as we head into day 3 appears to be Madison Keys. The American dismantled #2 seed Elina Svitolina in her last match. With Aryna Sabalenka gone as well, there isn’t anyone left who can outhit the American. So, will it be a return to winning ways for the former US open finalist? Perhaps a dark horse emerges from the pack on day 3? We try and go some way towards answering those questions in our WTA Adelaide 2 day 3 predictions.
WTA Adelaide 2 Day 3 Predictions
Rebecca Peterson vs Madison Brengle
Head-to-head: 1 – 1
Rebecca Peterson defeated top seed Sabalenka in a tight, three set affair last round. The Swede is playing great tennis to start this year and will be confident of making the quarterfinals here in Adelaide. To get there she must beat American Madison Brengle. Brengle’s purple patch over the last 12 months is showing no sign of coming to an end. She was good in her win over Anastasia Potapova. However, she appears to be outgunned her and Peterson is playing close to the level that saw her win two titles in 2019. That level should be enough to see her through here.
Prediction: Peterson in 2

Jasmine Paolini vs Lauren Davis
Head-to-head: First meeting
Jasmine Paolini appears to have found some of her 2021 form with a convincing win over Storm Sanders in her last match. The young Italian has great shotmaking ability and isn’t afraid to pull the trigger when the opportunity presents itself. By contrast, Lauren Davis is a dogged defender and great counterpuncher who will look to use Paolini’s power against her in this match. If both play near their best this should be tight. However, I expect Paolini to find enough winners to come through this one in the end.
Prediction: Paolini in 3

Alison Riske vs Anhelina Kalinina
Head-to-head: First meeting
Both Alison Riske and Anhelina Kalinina secured great wins in their first round matches here in Adelaide. As such, both will be full of confidence heading into this matchup. This match is hard to call as both are similarly ranked and don’t have much separating them in terms of tennis ability either. I think Riske has slightly more power available to her but Kalinina is braver and more aggressive in her style of play. That should be rewarded on these courts and so I’m backing the Ukrainian to get the job done here.
Prediction: Kalinina in 3

Coco Gauff vs Marta Kostyuk
Head-to-head: First meeting
This should be a cracking headline act for fans in Adelaide. Both Coco Gauff and Marta Kostyuk are rising young stars in the women’s game. Both had great years in 2021 but have a been a bit slow out of the starting blocks in 2022. All that could change with a win here though and both will be keen to capitalise on the chance for a deep run in a tournament before the Australian Open begins.Gauff has the higher level of the two and has looked very good in her matches this year. Even her loss to Ashleigh Barty last week was full of promising signs from the young Americans. She should have enough to edge this one in what should be a tight match.
Prediction: Gauff in 3
