Russia will try to secure their spot in the semifinals against Italy on Day 6 of the ATP Cup, while pretty much anything can happen in Group C. It’s going to be an exciting afternoon session at the 2022 ATP Cup. Who do you think will win?
ATP Cup Day 6 Predictions
Dan Evans vs John Isner
Head-to-head: 1-1
Dan Evans has been instrumental in Great Britain’s success so far, straight-setting both Denis Shapovalov and Jan-Lennard Struff. Incoming is an always unpleasant matchup against one of the game’s biggest servers. John Isner’s baseline game has been looking quite off in this tournament so far and it’s going to come down to whether the Brit can drag his opponent into enough rallies. Looking at how he performed in his previous two matches, he should be able to do it most of the time.
Prediction: Evans in 3
Cameron Norrie vs Taylor Fritz
Head-to-head: 4-4
The two met eight times across the past three years and there’s very little to separate them. It’s a perfect tie across all surfaces and a perfect (3-3) tie on outdoor hard courts. Cameron Norrie hasn’t reached his 2021 form yet, while Taylor Fritz looked impressive in his win over Felix Auger-Aliassime and managed to give Alexander Zverev a tougher challenge. The American is striking the ball very cleanly right now and can potentially capitalize on the power edge in this matchup.
Prediction: Fritz in 3
Roman Safiullin vs Jannik Sinner
Head-to-head: First meeting
Roman Safiullin has been the hero of Russia’s campaign so far, producing upsets over Arthur Rinderknech and James Duckworth. He also partnered Daniil Medvedev to win both doubles rubbers contested. The rise in the level of competition will be extremely steep though. Jannik Sinner seems to not have lost much from his late 2021 form and after going unbeaten at Davis Cup, he probably keeps winning here.
Prediction: Sinner in 2
Daniil Medvedev vs Matteo Berrettini
Head-to-head: Medvedev 2-0
Both players kicked off their ATP Cup campaigns with a somewhat surprising loss, but made up for it by raising their game for the second match. This should be a pretty pleasing matchup for the Russian, who won both his previous meetings with Matteo Berrettini, including one in last year’s edition of this tournament. Now that both players have overcome a slower start to the season, Daniil Medvedev should edge the Italian once again.
Prediction: Medvedev in 3
