ATP World Tour Finals Day 1 Predictions: Daniil Medvedev vs Hubert Hurkacz

The defending champion of the ATP World Tour Finals is Daniil Medvedev, he will start his title defense against Polish #1 Hubert Hurkacz who is making his World Tour Finals debut after a career season. We also have predictions for the Alexander Zverev vs Matteo Berrettini match on day 1, as the ATP season concludes with a marquee round robin event in Turin, Italy on indoor hard courts.

Daniil Medvedev vs Hubert Hurkacz

The pair split meetings this year, with Hurkacz winning a five setter at Wimbledon on the quick grass courts, and Medvedev edging out a tough three setter on outdoor hard courts in Canada. Both meetings were highly competitive on big stages, and this match looks setup the same. The underdog Hurkacz is playing well, reaching the semifinals of the Paris Masters and losing to Novak Djokovic in a third set tiebreak. Highlights for the newly top 10 Hurkacz including winning Metz, Miami, and Delray Beach this year, reaching the Wimbledon semifinals, and winning at least one match in all but one of the Masters level tournaments he entered this year.

Medvedev reached the final in Paris, and had two slam finals this season, winning the US Open and losing the Australian Open final to Djokovic to start the year. In between he won three titles (Marseille, Mallorca, and the Canada Masters). Medvedev hasn’t lost his opening match at a tournament since June, I expect Hurkacz to against test him, but ultimately the Russian should figure out a way to win as he starts his title defence.
