Diego Schwartzman Hits Shot of the Year Contender in Paris

Diego Schwartzman US Open

Despite a tough loss to Marcos Giron in the 2nd round of the ATP Paris Masters, Diego Schwartzman produced a moment of absolute wizardry. However, it wasn’t enough to sway the result of the match. Eventually losing 7-6(2) 7-6(4), it ends his hopes of qualifying for the end of year finals.

Diego Schwartzman Hits Unbelievable Shot of the Year Contender

Giron seemed to have hit the perfect lob. but Schwartzman had other ideas. Skating back to retrieve the ball, Diego hit an absolutely perfect behind-the-back lob in return. To hit this shot as well as he did and so close to the line is quite phenomenal. What makes it even more remarkable is how comfortable and assured he looked approaching the ball–he clearly knew exactly what he was doing.

The clip of the sensational shot is already doing the rounds on social media, unsurprisingly. Though Schwartzman will be disappointed with the result, where he hit over 40 unforced errors, this will be a significant addition to his ever-growing highlight reel.

Schwartzman is no stranger to lighting up the court with his magnificent shot-making. At the same tournament in 2017, the Argentine hit an audacious behind-the-back passing shot against John Isner, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Despite often having his best results on clay, it’s been a pretty successful indoor hardcourt season for the Argentine. He reached the final in Antwerp, where lost to the red-hot Jannik Sinner, and the quarterfinals in Vienna where he lost to eventual finalist Frances Tiafoe. This absolutely stunning shot will help round off his end of season rather nicely.
