Tommy Paul French Open 2021

ATP Indian Wells Day 5 Predictions

Another great day at the California desert as top American talents Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe take on the world’s best. Can they come through? Let’s have a look. We also have predictions for matches featuring Daniil Medvedev and Cameron Norrie.

Andrey Rublev vs Tommy Paul

Head-to-head: Rublev leads 3-0

Tommy Paul has had a great run here at Indian Wells so far. The American beat both Feliciano Lopez and Dusan Lajovic without dropping a set, and has looked steady in his matches. It will be a tough ask for the American to prevail against the Russian, but expect an entertaining match nevertheless. Rublev should come through eventually without much trouble.

Prediction: Rublev in two.

Frances Tiafoe vs Hubert Hurkacz

Head-to-head: Tiafoe leads 2-1

Frances Tiafoe has yet to drop a set and had an impressive victory of Sebastian Korda in his previous match winning 6-0 6-4. This should be a close match as both players are in somewhat similar form. The Pole came through Alexei Popyrin earlier without much trouble and will be looking to build on that confidence and form. This should be a three-setter, with Hurkacz eventually coming through.

Prediction: Hurkacz in three.

Diego Schwartzman vs Dan Evans

Head-to-head: Schwartzman leads 1-0

The pair’s most recent meeting was in Cincinnati nearly two months ago where Schwartzman came through in a tight three-setter. Evans had an impressive victory over Kei Nishikori in the first round and if he can play at a similar level- the Brit could come through. This should be a similar scoreline where perhaps Evans take it out this time round.

Prediction: Evans in three.

Denis Shapovalov vs Aslan Karatsev

Head-to-head: First meeting

An exciting match up awaits as Shapovalov takes on the consistent Aslan Karatsev. It is difficult to predict whether which Shapovalov turns up as he can be quite up and down at times. On the other hand, Karatsev has been pretty consistent throughout the year and the Russian is probably the safer pick.

Prediction: Karatsev in three.
