ATP Winston-Salem Day 3 Predictions Including Thiago Monteiro vs David Goffin

David Goffin US Open Round 3 2020

Day 3 at the ATP Winston-Salem Open will see plenty of action, including the debut of former Top 10 player David Goffin and recent Olympic Bronze Medalist Pablo Carreno Busta, who is a former champion of his event (back in 2016). We also have predictions for matches featuring Andy Murray, Benoit Paire, and Marin Cilic.

ATP Winston Salem Day 3 Predictions

Pablo Carreno Busta vs Soonwoo Kwon

Head-to-head: Carreno Busta 1-0 Kwon

The 2016 champion managed the best result of his career in Tokyo, where he beat Novak Djokovic to secure an unexpected Bronze Medal, and will be extremely motivated going into the US Open, where he came within a set of reaching the final last year. He’ll surely fancy his chances of adding another title this week and he’ll start his campaign against an opponent he easily dispatched in Madrid earlier this year already; on hard court it should be much closer, but you’d still expect Carreno Busta to win in relatively comfortable fashion.Prediction: Carreno Busta in 2

Mikael Ymer vs Albert Ramos-Vinolas

Head-to-head: Ramos 1-0 Ymer
This might be the closest match of the day to call on paper. Their previous match isn’t a great indication of anything since it was played almost 7 years ago, when Ymer was only 15. Considering the surface, the Swede might just have the slighest of edges here.
Prediction: Ymer in 3

Thiago Monteiro vs David Goffin

Head-to-head: Goffin 1-0 Monteiro

Goffin has been having a terrible season, marred by injuries and poor results and confidence after an early title in Montpellier and a decent run in Monte Carlo. He has lost his last five matches and will desperately try to stop that negative spiral going into the US Open, against an opponent who normally shouldn’t trouble him on hard courts. Their one previous meeting was at Davis Cup in 2016 and Monteiro won only 4 games. This time it’ll almost surely be closer than that, but it’s still clearly Goffin’s match to lose.
Prediction: Goffin in 2
