Two women remain at the WTA Palermo Open, as we have finally reached the final. Top seed Danielle Collins will be looking to lift her first WTA title and her opponent, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, coming in as a qualifier, will be seeking to win back-to-back titles as she won Hamburg just a couple weeks ago.
WTA Palermo Final Predictions
Danielle Collins vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse
Head-to-head: Ruse leads 1-0
Both players are coming into this final with superb form. Top seed Danielle Collins has yet to drop a set all week and has looked like she was driving in cruise control throughout all her matches. Her opponent, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, is playing in the form of her life right now. The 23-year-old Romanian won Hamburg two weeks ago, coming in as a qualifier. Now in Palermo, she looking to win her second consecutive title, once again coming in as a qualifier. The Romanian has only dropped one set this week in a tiebreak and looks in high confidence.
The pair actually played just a couple weeks ago in Hamburg, where Ruse beat Collins 7-5 in the third set. Given both players’ form and their recent tight match, fans should be in for an absolute treat in Italy on Sunday. Either Collins will win her (long overdue) first career title, or Ruse will extend an already-impressive win streak. Expect another close encounter but with Ruse coming on top once again.
Prediction: Ruse in 3.
