Quarterfinal day at the WTA Palermo Open. Who will come through and who will fall? Top seed Danielle Collins remains in the draw and the heavy favorite to win the title, but will she come through on Friday?
WTA Palermo Open Quarterfinal Predictions
Oceane Dodin vs Jaqueline Adina Cristian
Head-to-head: Dodin leads 1-0
Both players have been playing pretty well this week and had an impressive performance in their second round match. Cristian has had an up-and-down season, sometimes performing well, sometimes not. On the other hand, Dodin has been playing ITFs the past few weeks and achieved consistent results–this could help her confidence in the long run and help her pull through in the tough moments against Cristian.
Prediction: Dodin in 3
Olga Danilovic vs Shuai Zhang
Head-to-head: First meeting
Zhang, the third seed here, will have a tough match on her hands as is facing an in-form Danilovic. The 20-year-old Serbian reached the quarterfinals on clay in Hungary last week and so has been playing the clutch moments pretty well here in Palermo. Zhang will need to arguably one the best matches of her season if she wants to advance here to the semifinals, as playing a player like Danilovic, who is full of belief will be tough.
Prediction: Danilovic in 2
Lucia Bronzetti vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse
Head-to-head: First meeting
Bronzetti, the wild card this week, has exceeded all expectations here in Palermo, reaching the quarterfinals. But her magical run here in her home country could come to an end today as Ruse, the champion last week in Hamburg, is loving the red clay at the moment. Furthermore, Ruse has had an extra day of rest as her second round opponent, Jil Teichmann, withdrew due to an injury. With Ruse’s extra day of rest and being ‘in the zone’ at the moment, the 23-year-old Romanian should come through.
Prediction: Ruse in 2
Danielle Collins vs Astra Sharma
Head-to-head: First meeting
Collins is yet to drop a set here in Palermo and is looking to win her second career title and first on clay this week. She remains the heavy favorite so far, as the second and third seed are all dumped out. This is arguably her title to lose. Sharma is playing pretty good as well this week, but will find it difficult as Collins is just better.
Prediction: Collins in 2
