ATP Newport Day 2 Predictions Including Jack Sock vs Alex Bolt

Alex Bolt Australian Open

Day 2 of the ATP Hall of Fame Championships in Newport will see seven matches take place, including the debut of former Paris-Bercy Masters champion Jack Sock. We predict three of the matches in this article and the other four in a separate article.

ATP Newport Day 1 Predictions

Peter Gojowczyk vs Mitchell Krueger

Head-to-head: Gojowczyk 1-0 Krueger

Both players lost their first match in the Wimbledon qualifying and haven’t really had productive seasons in general. The German is far more dangerous on this surface with his big serve and powerful groundstrokes, however, and should be able to prevail in this match.
Prediction: Gojowczyk in 2

Maxime Cressy vs Paolo Lorenzi

Head-to-head: first meeting

Cressy is an overwhelming favorite to win here and for good reason: even at his peak, Lorenzi was never any sort of threat on grass, let alone now at the ripe age of 39. Cressy hasn’t exactly been enjoying a successful campaign on the surface either (although he was 2-0 up in the final qualifying round of Wimbledon), but it should be a huge upset if he doesn’t defeat the Italian.
Prediction: Cressy in 2

Jack Sock vs Alex Bolt

Head-to-head: Bolt 1-0 Sock

Their one previous meeting was in the first round of the 2019 Australian Open and it was another chapter in Sock’s downward spiral ever since winning the Bercy Masters 1000 back in the end of 2017.  Absolutely nothing indicates that downward spiral will be reserved any time soon. This will in fact be Sock’s first ATP level match of the season; even at his best, grass wasn’t a good surface for him, let alone now. Bolt is an easy favorite to prevail here.
Prediction: Bolt in 2
