WTA Bogota Final Prediction
Tamara Zidansek vs Maria Camila Osorio Serrano
Head-to-head: first meeting
Zidansek has been the best player in the tournament by quite some distance. The Slovenian is yet to drop a set this week, and more impressively, she has never looked in trouble in a match. barring in one set against Sara Errani. She has been solid off both wings, served well, and played with the variety and craft needed to succeed on clay. Also on her side is the fact that she has been in, and won, a WTA final before. That experience could prove vital here as she faces a new face on the women’s tour in the shape of the teenager Osorio Serrano.
The Columbian has been sublime all week. She too is yet to drop a set, and has looked more impressive and confident with each match she has played. She is clearly enjoying playing in her home country, with the young gun having played with great patience and variety all week, defending brilliantly when needed and putting her foot on the gas when the opportunity has presented itself. The most impressive feature of her performances so far has been the self-belief she has played with. She has looked certain of her game in every match she has played so far. That will need to remain the case in the final if she is to have a real shot of beating Zidansek.
These two women have been the pick of the bunch in this tournament from the get go. Zidansek has carried the flag for the seeds in the tournament admirably so far in Columbia. Meanwhile, Osorio Serrano has shown she is far more than just a flash in the pan junior. Zidansek has the advantage of experience on the tour. She has also won a WTA title before. Osorio Serrano has the advantage of playing in her home country. In all honesty this is hard to call. But the match is probably on Zidansek’s racket.
Of course, Osorio Serrano has excelled this week and if she did secure the title it would be a story remember. But it is hard to pick against the player whose racket the math rests on. Zidansek has the edge here. It should be a close contest, but the Slovenian should come out on top and lift a second WTA title.
Prediction: Zidansek in 3
