The Open 13 Provence 2021 in Marseille is all geared up for a first time winner. Whether it’ll be the red hot and top seed Daniil Medvedev or the local boy in Pierre-Hugues Herbert, only time will tell. What’s certain is that it should be a cracking match and one that befits a championship match.
ATP Marseille Final Prediction
Daniil Medvedev vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert
Head to head – Medvedev 1-1 Herbert
These two players have looked the best players this week and perhaps it’s fitting that these two play the final. Daniil Medvedev has come back strongly after his first round exit in Rotterdam eager as per his own words to build a new streak. The Russian is yet to be broken this week and that’s a testament to how well he’s been serving. On the other hand he has broken each of his opponent thrice in every match on the back of his stellar return game.
Pierre-Hugues Herbert too has been serving exceptionally well and didn’t concede a single break point in his semi-final match. The Frenchman loves to play in the forecourt and uses his reach well to close out points. In a way it’s in complete contrast to Medvedev who likes to hang back and use his defence to turn around points. It’ll be interesting if either player changes their game for this match but it’s more likely they’re going to stick with what’s been working so far.
Both players shouldn’t be too fatigued as Herbert looked rapid around the court after a long match with Stefanos Tsitsipas. Medvedev was lucky in a way as Matthew Ebden had to retire in the second set. Expect a mighty clash with neither dropping their guard on serve. Herbert should be able to snatch a set but that’ll only push Medvedev into the zone where it seems like he can’t miss. The Russian’s steely resolve should see him through for a first title here in Marseille.
Prediction: Medvedev in 3
