WTA Adelaide International Day 3 Predictions

Maddison Inglis vs Iga Swiatek

Head-to-head: First meeting

23-year-old Maddison Inglis has had a an impressive weak here in Adelaide. The Australian came through qualifying, had to defeat Christina McHale in the final round of qualifying, before causing an upset by beating Australian legend Sam Stosur in the main draw first round. It will be a tough test for Inglis, who will be playing the reigning Roland Garros champion, but she will come out with a ‘nothing to lose for’ attitude, and she should. Expect a good match, but Swiatek will be too good at the moment for Inglis.

Coco Gauff vs Petra Martic

Head-to-head: First meeting

This will be a contest between two different generations. Gauff, 16, will be taking on the experienced 30-year-old Petra Martic. Gauff had some trouble serving for the match in the second set against Jasmine Paolini Tuesday, before prevailing in a three-setter. Could there be some nerves at the moment for the talented 16-year-old? Gauff, who is always so exciting to watch, will provide a good match for the fans against Martic. This could be a close one, but Gauff should edge through in a three set battle.

Belinda Bencic vs Misaki Doi

Head-to-head: Bencic leads 2-0

Belinda Bencic has had a mixed start to 2021. The talented 23-year-old Swiss started the year with a defeat to Sorana Cirstea at the Grampians Trophy, before making it to the third round in Melbourne losing to 11th seed Elise Mertens. The same could be said for Doi, as the 29-year-old Japanese player experienced back-to-back defeats in her first two tournaments, before clinching some victories in qualifying this week and last week. This will be a tough match-up for Doi, but the Japanese will for sure make Bencic work for the win. It certainly won’t be a walk in the park.
