ATP Singapore Open Day 3 Predictions

Maxime Cressy vs Yoshihito Nishioka

The serve and volleyer Maxime Cressy takes on one of the tournament favorites Yoshihito Nishioka in what should be a fun and match. Nishioka got his first win of the season in the first round of this tournament, while Cressy has already qualified for the AO, where he won a match, and then followed that up with a win here. Despite the difference in ranking this match will be close and I expect Cressy to apply maximum pressure on serve. Nishioka is good enough from the baseline to respond, but it’s a coin flip that should come down to the wire. Nishioka in 3

Yuki Bhambri vs Matt Ebden

Yuki Bhambri was once a great hope for Indian tennis, but injuries derailed his career and he’s played very little tennis over the last few seasons. The COVID pandemic ideally gave him some time to truly rest, recover, and revitalize his career though, and he has a winnable match against career journeyman Matt Ebden here. Ebden is capable but his ceiling is limited. With so little match play for Bhambri over the past seasons though, it’s hard to pick him until there’s more of a track record for where his game is at. Thai-Son Kwiatkowski vs Soon-Woo Kwon

Thai-Son Kwiatkowski immediately becomes the most accomplished tennis player to represent Vietnam after he obtained citizenship and plans to represent the country in in international competition. The opportunity to be a trailblazer for professional tennis in Vietnam won’t be lost on Kwiatkowski, but he will have to obtain a much higher ranking than 181 to make that happen. His opponent Soon-Woo Kwon has already obtained a top 70 ranking and has the same opportunity to help South Korean tennis reach new heights. Kwon is coming off a challenger title and has a h2h win, so he’s a strong favorite to advance from this match. Kwon in 2
