The exceptionally large main court in Cordoba will be back in action on Day 3 as the ATP Cordoba Open continues. The out-of-form players have mainly been shed from the draw and the second round should see some tough tennis.

There are only four singles matches on the order of play for Day 3. Read previews for all of the matches below.

ATP Cordoba Open Day 3 Predictions

Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera vs Jozef Kovalik

Barrios Vera is already probably delighted with his little run in Cordoba. Having qualified, the Chilean was then the beneficiary of the withdrawal of Guido Pella and slotted into a coveted seeded spot. Kovalik had to reach this round the hard way, but did so very well by defeating Daniel Galan in three sets. A repeat of set one or set three would do the job in this match for the Slovakian who is building a nice run of results on clay and will surely have too much for the Chilean here.
Prediction: Kovalik in 3

Federico Coria vs Francisco Cerundolo

An all-Argentine clash here; however, it was Coria who had the easier task to make it into round two. Cerundolo took the long route against Gianluca Mager but ended the match as the stronger player. I have been really impressed with Cerundolo this season, it is getting to the stage where he is refusing to lose. Coria had a really poor record until that first round victory over a below-par Dominik Koepfer and I think that the Cerundolo train to rumble on here.

Facundo Bagnis vs Federico Delbonis

These two players know each other very well. Both Argentine and both 30 years of age, their first meeting came over a decade ago. It is Delbonis who holds the edge in their head-to-head record at 4-2. However, Bagnis had a very easy task of disposing of the returning Nicolas Kicker in Round 1 whereas Delbonis had to fight a bit harder to get past Pedro Sousa. I expect to see a three-set battle here and perhaps the freshness and the form of Bagnis will win the day on this occasion.

Nicolas Jarry vs Benoit Paire

It is always an impossible task to fathom what Benoit Paire’s motivation will be in any given match. Quite what the Frenchman is doing here is a bit of a mystery. This match will be only his seventh on South American soil and he has won only two of the previous six. However, Paire does hold a 3-0 career record over Jarry.

Jarry surprised a few onlookers with his excellent performance in the opening round against Jaume Munar. Despite being the underdog and losing the first set Jarry battled hard and used his powerful serving and forehands effectively the grind out a three-set victory.

That win showed that the former Top 50 player is recovering his form after his absence and it should only take a repeat of that performance to win this match. Take Jarry to come through another three-set match.
Prediction: Jarry in 3
