ATP Montpellier Day 2 Predictions

Lucas Pouille vs Benjamin Bonzi

Head to head: First Meeting

Lucas Pouille didn’t play a tournament post tennis resumption in August 2020. His first two tournaments in 2021 (both Challenger events) have yielded him just the one win. The elder Frenchman will not be feeling particularly hopeful as he starts his Montpellier campaign, a title he won three years ago.

Benjamin Bonzi, on the other hand has already won a Challenger event this year, and the younger Frenchman should feel pretty good about his chances against Pouille. Expect Pouille to spray a lot of unforced errors and Bonzi to stay consistent enough to get the win.
Prediction: Bonzi in 2

Jiri Vesely vs Mikael Ymer

Head to head – First Meeting

This should be an interesting matchup. Mikael Ymer is definitely one of the players to watch out for and his aggressive game is well suited for the conditions here in Montpellier. Jiri Vesely is a seasoned campaigner now but his backhand is still a weakness for the Czech. Vesely can serve his way out at time but Ymer possesses a better all round game to win in three sets.
Prediction: Ymer in 3

Dennis Novak vs Gilles Simon

Head to head – First Meeting

A very difficult match to choose the victor. Both players lost their first round matches at the Australian Open in straight sets, and looks like it could be a case of who has managed to put that disappointment behind them. Gilles Simon is a vastly experienced tennis player and to play at home will help to motivate himself even more. Dennis Novak is a decent baseliner and will have his moments but I’m banking on Simon’s experience to get the win for the Frenchman in three tight sets.
Prediction: Simon in 3
