ATP Great Ocean Road Open Day 2 Predictions

Yannick Hanfmann vs Mario Vilella Martinez

Head-to-head: Vilella Martinez 1-0

Yannick Hanfmann enjoyed a breakthrough season last year, including a runner-up season in the main tour event in Kitzbuhel. Both men are primarily clay-court specialists but whose game should be easier to adjust? Feels like the answer is definitely Hanfmann, especially if the conditions are rather fast as reported by some of the players. His brand of attacking tennis could really benefit from that and make Mario Vilella Martinez not able to get to every ball as he usually does.
Prediction: Hanfmann in 3

Robin Haase vs Kimmer Coppejans

Head-to-head: First meeting

Kimmer Coppejans qualified for the Australian Open in great style, not losing a set against three very competitive opponents. While Robin Haase undoubtedly has much more experience playing at this level, his form has been extremely shaky in recent years. Coppejans’s best traits are his footspeed and mental toughness, both of which could lead Haase into making errors and failing to come up with the goods in important moments. This should be tight but if the Belgian can repeat his Australian Open qualifying performances, he should come out on top.
Prediction: Coppejans in 3

Jordan Thompson vs Gianluca Mager

Head-to-head: First meeting

This might not look too exciting but it might actually end up as one of the clashes of the round. Gianluca Mager had a quite brilliant week reaching the quarterfinals in Delray Beach, playing the best hard court tennis of his career. The Italian’s serve and forehand are very potent weapons and Jordan Thompson will have to be on top of his game. With the little benefit of playing at home, the Australian is the more likely candidate to prevail, but it could be close.
Prediction: Thompson in 3
