ATP Paris Masters Day 2 Predictions

Round of 64

Lorenzo Sonego vs Alexander Bublik

Head to head – Sonego 1-0 Bublik
What an incredible turn of fortunes it has been for the young Italian. From almost knocked out in the qualifying rounds to almost clinching the title last week, Sonego is now a dangerous floater in the draw. He takes on Alexander Bublik who has just won one match across two tournaments since the French Open and doesn’t look like the Kazakh will be able to stop an in form Sonego. Expect Sonego to put behind the final loss and make a strong start to his Paris indoors campaign.
Prediction: Sonego in 2

Richard Gasquet vs Taylor Fritz

Head to head – First Meeting
This one has the potential to turn into an ugly slug fest. Neither player enters this tournament in good form and a strong first round showing from either looks unlikely. Taylor Fritz is still only 23 years old but has been on the tour for quite some time now. The American has still not managed to break through at a big stage like the Grand Slams or the Masters but who knows maybe this is the one. If he’s to do that, he’ll have to get past Richard Gasquet who brings a wealth of experience but not a lot of match confidence. Expect long and brutal rallies and this should go to a third set. Gasquet with his variety of slices and angular strokes should just manage to draw the errors from Fritz and that should prove enough for the win.
Prediction: Gasquet in 3

Round of 32

David Goffin vs Norbert Gombos

Head to head – Goffin 1-0 Gombos

Gombos had an impressive run at the French Open and he looks to be continuing that form. Of course, he’s nowhere near in the same league as David Goffin is right now, so expect the Belgian to roll, though this made me a tad closer than people expect.
Prediction: Goffin in 2
