French Open Day 5 Predictions Including Andrey Rublev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Andrey Rublev and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will showcase some big hitting on day 5 of the 2020 French Open. Our panel of Damian Kust and Steen Kirby offer their predictions.

Andrey Rublev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Damian: The Hamburg titlist might be starting to feel the weariness, especially after a tough five-set battle against Sam Querrey in the first round. This won’t be easy but in the end, I’ll take the Russian’s power over Davidovich Fokina’s variety. Rublev in 4

Steen: Fatigue is the risk factor for Rublev, he’s playing better than Davidovich Fokina but if ADF can extend the match Rublev should falter. This is a great chance for him to pull an upset. Davidovich Fokina in 5

Cristian Garin vs Marc Polmans

Damian: Marc Polmans stormed through the qualifying and scored a great opening-round win over in-form Ugo Humbert. This should be the end of the road for him though, as Garin has been one of the brightest clay-court stars in both early parts of the season and after the restart. Garin in 4

Steen: Garin is too good on clay for Polmans. He should march on facing limited resistance. Garin in 3

Jan-Lennard Struff vs Daniel Altmaier

Damian: Daniel Altmaier finally sorted out his health issues and he’s able to start showcasing his full potential. An upset here is not beyond the realm of possibility as Struff seemed to not have adapted well to the conditions in his tough opening-round win. Altmaier in 5

Steen: A battle of Germans, this could really go either way but Altmaier is the form player of the moment. Altmaier in 4

Marcos Giron vs Thiago Monteiro

Damian: The American impressed with a gutsy opening round win but he might be a bit drained after that. This feels like a great opportunity for Monteiro, who has been out there with a competent clay-court game for a couple of years now. Monteiro in 4

Steen: Monteiro on clay has an advantage over his American opponent. He could surprise with a run into the second week. Monteiro in 3
