Vintage Azarenka Into Western & Southern Open 2020 Final

Victoria Azarenka French Open

Victoria Azarenka defeated Britain’s #1 Johanna Konta in three sets, 4-6 6-4 6-1. The Belorussian looked like her old self and continues her great run at the Western & Southern Open. She hit seven aces, broke the Konta serve five out of ten times, and hit just five double faults.

Azarenka dropped the first set as Konta played well and began to a promising start. Konta was playing incredible tennis throughout the week and continued that in the first set. Konta broke Azarenka and that was enough for the Brit to take the first set. She looked calm, collected, and relaxed. She looked like she was enjoying herself and that showed in the first set.

Set number two saw how Azarenka raised her level and took it to Konta. She attacked the Konta serve when she had a chance. Konta hadn’t dropped a set all week until today. The former world No.1 was the only player all week long to break the Konta serve. Azarenka played very well and demonstrated her winning mentality when closing the set.

In the deciding set, Azarenka bossed every point. She just looked incredible and stole the show. She sealed the match with an ace and awaits Naomi Osaka in the final on Saturday. Azarenka was very happy and looked fresh. She came back from a set down and showed her winning mentality. Konta played some great tennis all week and will now look to prepare for the US Open.

If Azarenka continues in this impeccable form she will no doubt put a great performance against Osaka. Azarenka just looked amazing especially in the third set. The match lasted two hours and 19 minutes which was filled with high quality tennis from both women. Azarenka seeks to het sixth consecutive match after having a rough start at the beginning of the year.

Azarenka seeks to win this event once again as she did back in 2013.
