ATP Marseille Open Day 2 Predictions

Vasek Pospisil vs Emil Ruusuvuori

Head to head – First Meeting

The Canadian Vasek Pospisil enters this match with newfound confidence having reached the final in Montpellier beating high-quality opponents throughout. He takes on Emil Ruusuvuori who turned professional in 2018 and is still finding his way on the main tour.

Ruusuvuori rode his luck to make it into the main draw in Marseille sneaking through as the lucky loser. He failed to qualify in Rotterdam and to take on an in-form player will be a tough ask. Pospisil has a decent baseline game and a good serve which should be enough for him to progress to the Round of 16.
Prediction: Pospisil in 2

Gilles Simon vs Harold Mayot

Head to head – First Meeting

Gilles Simon has a 3-4 win-loss record so far in 2020 and even though his best tennis years are behind him, he’s still a very capable baseliner. He faces 18-year-old fellow countryman Harold Mayot who plays his first-ever ATP main tour match on the back of a wildcard.

The young Frenchman is an exciting prospect who recently won the Australian Open Juniors Championships. However, as impressive as that is, the main tour is a completely different level altogether and expect Simon’s consistency and shot selection to be the decisive factor.
Prediction: Simon in 2

Marin Cilic vs Ilya Ivashka

Head to head  – First Meeting

Marin Cilic returns to action for the first time since his fourth-round appearance in Melbourne. It’s a jam-packed draw and Cilic will have to be at his absolute best to clinch the title. His first-round matchup, however, shouldn’t be too much of a hassle as he takes on qualifier Ilya Ivashka. The Belarusian did exceptionally well to qualify but to beat Cilic is surely too much to ask. Expect the Croat to be at his menacing best and boss his way to the round of 16.
Prediction: Cilic in 2
