ATP Adelaide International Semifinal Predictions Including Andrey Rublev vs Felix Auger-Aliassime

Felix Auger-Aliassime Adelaide International

It should be a thrilling semifinals day at the ATP Adelaide International, with four in-form players set to battle for a place in Saturday’s final in the South Australian capital. But who will win through to the title match and who will succumb to defeat?

Adelaide International Semifinal Predictions

Tommy Paul vs Lloyd Harris

Head-to-head: Harris 1-0 Paul

Both Tommy Paul and Lloyd Harris are looking to reach the first tour-level final of their careers. Paul has made an excellent start to his season in Adelaide. He qualified into the event with comfortable wins over Matthew Christopher Romios and the now-suspended Nicolas Jarry and he has continued to impress in the main draw, beating Aljaz Bedene, Pablo Cuevas and Albert Ramos Vinolas, all without dropping a set. In fact, the only man to break his serve was Bedene.

Harris too has enjoyed a breakthrough week. He too stormed through the qualifying, with straight-sets wins over Mikalai Haliak and Stephane Robert, before battling past sixth seed Cristian Garin, 7-6 3-6 6-4, to reach the second round of the main draw. There he proved too strong for Laslo Djere, winning 7-6 6-3, before delivering a 6-3 6-3 beatdown of world #30 Pablo Carreno Busta to reach the second tour-level semifinal of his career.

This will be the second meeting between the pair, with Harris having won the first 7-5 in the third two years ago at the Fairfield Challenger, having been a break down in the decider. Both have been serving superbly so far and dominating off the ground. But Paul has the greater margin for error with his groundstrokes, particularly his forehand. Harris, for all his power, hits a flat ball and that brings with it significant risk. Expect few breakpoints, but for Paul to prove the more clinical of the two.

Prediction: Paul in 3

Andrey Rublev vs Felix Auger-Aliassime

Head-to-head: Rublev 1-0 Auger-Aliassime

After a disastrous ATP Cup campaign, Felix Auger-Aliassime has rediscovered his form at the Adelaide International. After a first-round bye, the young Canadian has picked up fairly straightforward wins over the Australians James Duckworth and Alex Bolt. But he will need to up his game when he takes on the in-form Andrey Rublev, who has made a superb start to the season. The Russian won the title in Doha last week and played some fine tennis to pass the potentially challenging tests posed by Sam Querrey and Dan Evans.

As a result, he must be accounted the heavy favourite coming into this match. Not only did he beat Auger-Aliassime in their only previous meeting, albeit two years ago and on clay, but he is also in the form of his life. He has won all seven matches he has played so far in 2020 and looks set to make a real impact this year. His forehand particularly has proved too hot to handle for all of his opponents thus far this year and with Auger-Aliassime not at his best, expect Rublev to claim another scalp.

Prediction: Rublev in 2
