ATP European Open Final Prediction: Andy Murray vs Stan Wawrinka

Andy Murray European Open

The ATP European Open 2019 comes to a close with a fantastic finale as two three-time Grand Slam champions go head-to-head in Antwerp. But who will come out on top?

ATP European Open Final Prediction

Andy Murray vs Stan Wawrinka

Head-to-head: Murray 11-8 Wawrinka

Andy Murray did well to snatch the momentum back from Ugo Humbert in his semifinal after losing the first set, ultimately rallying to a 3-6 7-5 6-2 win. Stan Wawrinka too has looked sharp so far at the European Open, but he will have to play his best match to win the title. He played his best match yet against Jannik Sinner, winning 81% of his first serve points and losing his service game only once. At no point did Wawrinka look under any kind of pressure against the in-form Sinner.

These two are veterans of the game and are no strangers to each other. They’ve played each other 19 times and their 20th meeting may be one of their most interesting clashes. They last met in Eastbourne last season, where Murray won convincingly. But lots has changed since then. The Briton initially struggled on his return to action, but impressed during the Asian swing and he has carried that good form into the European Open. But he has also spent a lot of time out on court this week so fatigue could be an issue.

Murray has toiled in his last two matches and against Wawrinka, he can’t afford any slip-ups because the Swiss can be devastating on faster indoor courts. Even though Murray is taking solid steps to recover his best form, the Swiss has been playing at a good level since the US Open and based on this week’s performances Wawrinka looks better poised to take home the trophy. Expect a fierce contest with the Brit giving his all but Wawrinka has the tools to overpower Murray and wrestle the match in his favor.

Prediction: Wawrinka in 3
