ATP European Open Semifinals Predictions Including Andy Murray vs Ugo Humbert

Andy Murray

Only four men remain in contention for the ATP European Open 2019 trophy. The semi-finals bracket consists of two three-time Grand Slam winners in Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka, and future stars of men’s tennis in Ugo Humbert and Jannik Sinner. Who makes his way to play in the all-important championship match?

ATP European Open Semifinals Predictions

Stan Wawrinka vs Jannik Sinner

Head to head – Wawrinka 1-0 Sinner

It’s worthwhile recognizing what the 18-year-old has achieved this week. Jannik Sinner makes his first-ever tour-level semi-final and may become the youngest top 100 player at present. Sinner seems to be making the most out of his brilliant form but his sternest test yet awaits him.

Stan Wawrinka had a minor hiccup letting a match point go by but held his calm to close it out. On the relatively faster courts of Antwerp, the Swiss surely has the more powerful game but the faster courts favor Sinner as well. They played each other at this year’s US Open with Wawrinka winning it in four sets. What was interesting about that match was that the Italian had his fair share of breakpoint chances but couldn’t convert them. That also means the more experienced Swiss superstar played the pressure points better and it’ll prove decisive once again when they clash for a place in the finals. Expect a highly competitive match and a high chance Wawrinka ends the magnificent run compiled by Sinner this week.

Prediction: Wawrinka in 3

Andy Murray vs Ugo Humbert

Head to head – First Meeting

Andy Murray survived a huge scare against Marius Copil after the Romanian launched a spirited comeback late in the second set. However, currently, the Brit would be happy that he’s able to nab the victory when the contest goes the distance.

Ugo Humbert survived a marathon match of his own against fellow southpaw Guido Pella. On current form, there’s very little to choose between the two as Murray is yet to recapture his best form and the Frenchman being inconsistent since Wimbledon. It’s an exciting test for Murray against one of the NextGen players and Murray’s physical state will no doubt be tested. Murray has been serving well which is crucial for the Brit to win a lot of free points and take control of the rallies early on. Humbert is a solid baseliner but against Murray he’s up against one of the best defenders and counter-punchers of the game. Expect a fierce contest between the pair with the Brit eking this one out.

Prediction: Murray in 3
