ATP Chengdu Open Day 3 Predictions Including Denis Shapovalov vs Ricardas Berankis

Denis Shapovalov US Open

First-round action continues at the ATP Chengdu Open 2019 with the last four round of 32 matches scheduled for Day 3. Hyeon Chung and Joao Sousa will play their match scheduled for Day 2 on Wednesday. We analyze and predict all of the scheduled matches at the Chengdu Open.

ATP Chengdu Open Day 3 Predictions

Vasek Pospisil vs Jordan Thompson

Head to head – First Meeting

One of the two Canadians in action, Vasek Pospisil is enduring a tough period in his tennis career. Currently ranked #223, Pospisil simply hasn’t played a lot of matches this year on the main ATP Tour.

He takes on Jordan Thompson, who on the contrary has played a lot of matches this year. The Aussie reached his maiden final earlier and would be looking to keep moving up the rankings. This match essentially feels like a matchup of confidence and the Aussie seems to have it more than the Canadian who is 1-3 (win-loss) this year.
Prediction: Thompson in 2

Taylor Fritz vs Alexander Bublik

Head to head – First Meeting

21-year-old American Taylor Fritz opens his Chengdu Open campaign against a tricky opponent in Alexander Bublik. Both players, for the sake of tennis, have their best years on tour yet to arrive. 2019, in particular, has been good for Fritz with a maiden ATP Tour title to his name.

However, with his recent Laver Cup showing, Fritz is definitely looking the strong favorite here. Bublik is no easy matchup for anyone but seems to be low on confidence losing in the first round at St. Petersburg. Expect a competitive match with Fritz progressing forward.
Prediction: Fritz in 3

Denis Shapovalov vs Ricardas Berankis

Head to head – Shapovalov 1-1 Berankis

These two take on each other for the second time this year having played earlier at Wimbledon. While Ricardas Berankis won that with some comfort, it won’t be as easy going on the hard courts of Chengdu.

Denis Shapovalov has had a lackluster 2019 but this week provides him with another chance to gain some confidence. His Laver Cup match against Dominic Thiem would have been a tough pill to swallow but expect the Canadian to punch through Berankis on his more favored surface.
Prediction: Shapovalov in 2
