Priscilla Hon vs Ajla Tomljanovic
Head-to-head: first meeting
This all-Australian battle should be an entertaining one. Priscilla Hon has put together an impressive run to come through the qualifying and reach the second round, all without dropping a set. But up against Ajla Tomljanovic, she looks to be in for a tough test. The fifth seed has not quite hit the heights this season, but she remains an excellent touring professional. She is also in a rich vein of form herself after reaching the semifinals in Zhengzhou, before dismantling Stefanie Voegele 6-0 6-2 in the first round. Expect this contest to be closer, but Tomljanovic looks like she will take some stopping this week.

Patricia Maria Tig vs Paula Badosa Gibert
Head-to-head: Badosa Gibert 2-1 Tig
Patricia Maria Tig’s come back to the tour this season has been nothing short of remarkable and after coming through the qualifying at the Korea Open, she impressed once again by battling past Danka Kovinic, although her seven double faults will be a cause for concern. Paula Badosa Gibert, meanwhile, picked up another impressive win by defeating Jil Teichmann of Switzerland in straight-sets. Both of these women are more at home on the clay than hard courts. But Badosa Gibert has played the better tennis so far in the main draw and deservedly won their last encounter, which came at Wimbledon. Expect her to come out on top again.

Karolina Muchova vs Timea Babos
Head-to-head: first meeting
After some fine play at the All England Club and the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, but little in between, Karolina Muchova has the chance to really make her case as one of the players to watch in 2020 in the closing weeks of this season. But the 23-year-old was made to work hard for her first-round victory over Alison Van Uytvanck and looks set for another stern test against Timea Babos, who made short work of Jelena Ostapenko in the first round. And whilst Muchova’s excellent feel at the net and her ability to spread the court, particularly off the forehand side, make her an exceptionally difficult opponent to face, Babos looks to be in inspired form.
