WTA Guangzhou Day 3 Predictions Including Sam Stosur vs Bernarda Pera

Bernarda Pera

The WTA Guangzhou Open continues in China on Wednesday. Who will advance to the quarterfinals? We will see all eight Round 2 matches on Day 3, and we’re predicting all eight. Four are in this article, but we also have the other four matches. Who will move on? Here are our thoughts.

WTA Guangzhou Day 3 Predictions

Elina Svitolina vs Marie Bouzkova

Bouzkova has had a bit of a breakout summer, including a strong run at the Rogers Cup. However, she barely got through her first round match her (she needed a third-set tiebreaker to advance) and hasn’t looked amazing, aside from one match in Toronto. It’s hard to see her having the form to take out Svitolina here, who is one of the top players in the world right now.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2

Aleksandra Krunic vs Anna Blinkova

Both of these players have played pretty well this summer, though neither quite has the results to show for it. Blinkova did win the 125K tournament in New Haven a few weeks ago, while Krunic did well to upset Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the opening round. The pair have only met once before, a 2017 Australian Open qualifying match that was utterly dominated by Blinkova. I don’t expect this match to go the same, but I do expect a similar result.
Prediction: Blinkova in 2

Katerina Siniakova vs Viktorija Golubic

Siniakova was impressive in her first-round match, dominating a fatigued Elena Rybakina in straight sets. Her young Swiss opponent, on the other hand, lost to Rybakina last week. Then again, Rybakina was in far better form for that match. Both of these young players (along with Rybakina) have real potential to be future top players, but right now Siniakova is more solid and more consistent. That will get her through.
Prediction: Siniakova in 3

WTA Guangzhou Ope Katerina Siniakova

Sam Stosur vs Bernarda Pera

Stosur is surely in the twilight of her career, but you couldn’t tell it from her opening match here. Pera, meanwhile, is on her way up, and was very impressive in dispatching Ons Jabeur (who has been in the best form of her career this season) in straight sets. I expect a tough, hard-fought match here, and I think the American will have just a bit more in the tank as this goes on.
Prediction: Pera in 3
