ATP Cincinnati Wednesday Predictions Including Nick Kyrgios vs Karen Khachanov

Cincinnati Masters Nick Kyrgios

Wednesday at the 2019 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati will cover the remaining second round matches and a few third round contests. Seed #5 Stefanos Tsitsipas will play against Jan-Lennard Struff and in the most exciting clash of the day. Also, Nick Kyrgios will face Karen Khachanov of Russia, seeded eighth. Who will prevail?

ATP Cincinnati Wednesday Predictions

Jan-Lennard Struff vs Stefanos Tsitispas

Head-to-head: Tied 1-1

He’s playing far too well to call it a slump, but Tsitsipas certainly isn’t untouchable at the moment. The Greek dropped his opening match in Montreal to Hubert Hurkacz and lost his last match against the German this year in Barcelona. Struff’s serve can be amazing at times and if he has a great hitting spots day he might have a shot but Tsitsipas has the same firepower while being a lot more consistent.

Prediction: Tsitsipas in 3

Radu Albot vs Diego Schwartzman

Head-to-head: First meeting

The Moldovan’s breakthrough season just keeps getting better and better. Radu Albot pulled up a great performance against Marin Cilic on Monday and set up a meeting with Diego Schwartzman, who captured his first non-clay ATP title two weeks ago at Los Cabos. This will be a game between two players who aren’t as tall as most of their contemporaries and it should make up for a very intriguing contest where the Argentinian is the better defender but if Albot can consistently dominate the play with his inside-out forehand, the Moldovan will have his chances.

Prediction: Albot in 3

Richard Gasquet vs Federico Delbonis

Head-to-head: First meeting

Delbonis lost in the final round of qualifying to Casper Ruud but after the fourth seed Dominic Thiem withdrew citing illness, the Argentinian got in as a lucky loser and even received a first-round bye. He recently won a Challenger Tour title in Perugia and reached a semifinal in Bastad but don’t expect him to mirror these clay-court achievements here.

Richard Gasquet has been slowly getting in form since his comeback in May (a hernia operation back in January ruled him out of the competition for four months) and had a great run last week in Montreal (beat Benoit Paire and Kei Nishikori, lost to Roberto Bautista Agut). In the first round here in Cincinnati the Frenchman dismantled a not 100-percent fit Andy Murray and he should keep up the good run here. They’ve never played each other before and it’s not clear how Gasquet will handle the Argentinian’s left-handed topspin but a slick and pretty quick surface should help him to hit through his backhand with ease.

Prediction: Gasquet in 2

Lucas Pouille vs Denis Shapovalov

Head-to-head: First meeting

Shapovalov recovered from a set down to Joao Sousa on Tuesday and scored his second match win since May. It will be tough to repeat this performance against Lucas Pouille who plays close to the baseline and will take time away from the Canadian, not allowing for long wind-ups on his shots. The Frenchman got his first victory since a good Wimbledon campaign (lost to Federer in the third round) on Monday (defeated Denis Kudla) and he has the ability to take the match out of Shapovalov’s hands and play it on his terms.

Prediction: Pouille in 3

Nick Kyrgios vs Karen Khachanov

Head-to-head: First meeting

The nightmare of every tennis predictor – which Nick Kyrgios will show up? Khachanov reached the semifinals in Montreal (lost to Medvedev, defeated Zverev, Auger-Aliassime and Wawrinka) and he gets another extremely tough draw here. The Australian has been a bit more focused than usual lately, winning an ATP 500 title in Washington two weeks ago taking out Tsitsipas and Medvedev along the way. He advanced to the second round with a routine win over Lorenzo Sonego and you can expect a very tight contest with many short service games on both sides. Kyrgios at his best is one of the players who handle tight situations extremely well and should it come down to the wire, he might have an upper hand with a slightly superior serve.

Prediction: Kyrgios in 3
