Washington Open Cori Gauff

Day 2 at here the Washington Open (The Citi Open for sponsorship reasons) includes a mixture of both exciting and young players for the fans to watch. The likes of Su-Wei Hsieh, who is always a fan favourite with her unique style of play, and the teenage sensation, Coco Gauff, are all going to be on court, as Day 2 promises to be an action-packed day for the fans.

WTA Washington Open Day 2 Predictions

Su-Wei Hsieh vs Kirsten Flipkens

Head-to-head: 2-2 tied

Flipkens has had a decent season with mixed results here and there, but can be inconsistent at times with her game. Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Taiwanese player has had a resurgence in her singles career this year and is very close to reaching her career-high ranking of 23 and is playing excellent both on the singles and doubles court.

Their head-to-head is currently tied. But Hsieh actually beat Flipkens just a few weeks at Wimbledon in straight sets so this could give an insight to who could win here at Washington.

Kristina Mladenovic vs Shelby Rogers

Head-to-head: 1-1 tied

Like Hsieh, Mladenovic is also having a resurgence in her singles career ever since deciding to hire Sascha Bajin as her full-time coach. The Frenchwoman has gone on to reach the deep stages at some big tournaments such as Rome and Nottingham under Bajin’s guidance.

Combining both factors such as Mladenovic’s rising confidence on the singles court and Rogers’ inconsistency with results the past few months, the 26-year-old Frenchwoman should go on to win this match.

Sachia Vickery vs Camila Giorgi

Head-to-head: Giorgi leads 1-0

Neither player is playing great at the moment. For Giorgi, she has yet to win a singles match since the Australian Open in January. Vickery, meanwhile, is on a 4-10 win-loss deficit this season.

This win would mean a lot to both players, but Vickery, having come through qualifying has already won some matches earlier in the week. This should give her a lot of confidence coming in this match and could prove decisive.

Coco Gauff vs Zarina Diyas

Head-to-head: First meeting

The teenage sensation continues to impress the tennis world. She did not drop a set in qualifying to make her way in the main draw here. It will be a fascinating match to see if Gauff can handle the pressure playing at home and also against an experienced opponent like Diyas.

However, take nothing away from Diyas, but the 15-year-old is simply playing sublime tennis at the moment to lose here in the first round.
Prediction: Gauff in 2
