ATP Hall of Fame Open Final Prediction

John Isner vs Alexander Bublik

Head to Head: never played

John Isner battles Alexander Bublik for the Hall of Fame Open championship! Isner is looking for his fourth title in Newport, while Bublik is looking for his first ATP Tour title. This championship match is unique in the sense that both Isner and Bublik went three sets in every match this week. Isner beat Ugo Humbert in a third set to make the final, while Bublik beat Marcel Granollers in a tight match to reach his first final on the ATP Tour. Bublik has thrived in singles championship matches at a lower level. He is 4-1 in ATP Futures finals and 6-0 in ATP Challenger finals. Out of those finals, in matches he won, he only dropped one set, in the Pau Challenger final against Norbert Gombos.

These two have never played before. Both players have a huge serve, but Isner’s is more reliable. Bublik seems to come and go in matches over the years, but against Isner’s serve, any mental lapse could result in the set being over. Bublik will have to stay focused mentally in order to win this match. Bublik is a more flashy player, but Isner’s a veteran who will not be swayed by any trick shots that Bublik will throw at him.

This match will be close with very few (if any) breaks. However, Isner’s much more experienced in ATP Tour finals and he has a more reliable serve, but also just a steadier overall game. In tight moments in the match, I trust Isner more than Bublik to make the right shots. Yes, winning so many titles on the Future and Challenger Tours is impressive, but winning your first ATP Tour title is a different animal. Isner gets the job done.

John Isner will be your 2019 ATP Hall of Fame Open champion!

Prediction: Isner in 3
