First half – No goals scored by either side
York United FC, Diyaeddine Abzi’s cross allowed Oliver Minatel to deliver a header from close range. However, the shot went straight to York’s Nathan Ingham. Atlético Ottawa’s passing was not sharp, with only one of four passes completed by the 19-minute of play. York’s Roger Thompson defended well in the 23-minute. Abzi intercepted the ball in the 29-minute.
Abzi took on Ottawa’s defence in the 31-minute. This helped Thompson of York to get a scoring chance, but he missed the target. Bassett’s shot was off-target in the 34-minute. Ballou Tabla’s shot was skied high in the 39-minute. Michael Shaw fouled Abzi. Verhoven’s shot just missed and went above the net. There were two unfortunate injuries, one for each team. Hope for a speedy recovery for Ottawa’s Diego Espejo and York’s Oliver Minatel, who had to leave the game due to an injury.
Second half – Ballou Tabla scores his first-ever CPL goal
Sebastian Gutierrez’s bicycle shot missed the target. Osaze De Rosario was the one who passed the ball.

This was just great teamwork for the goal. Zack Verhoven left the ball to Brian White, who put the ball into the back of the net from a tight angle. Ottawa looked like they were in control, with their defence troubling York.

Unfortunately, one mistake can change everything. Ollie Brissett gave the ball away. This forced Nathan Ingham to make a reckless tackle, and a penalty was awarded. Dwayne De Rosario’s son, Osaze De Rosario, put the ball into the back of the net. This gave York the game-tying goal and all the momentum to the home side. For example, York’s player Christopher N’sa in the 77-minute created a corner for his side.
Then, De Rosario created a corner for his side in the 80-minute. Ricci then delivered a good shot in the 85-minute. Unfortunately, all that was erased by Ballou Tabla.

This goal was created because of two mistakes made by Thompson and Abzi. This allowed Ballou Tabla to score his first goal of the game. After that goal, York was chasing the game and got frustrated when Cedric Toussaint got his second yellow card.
90+4’ #YorkUnitedFC’s Dominick Zator scores very late in what has been a wild second half! #OneSoccer#YRKvATO | 2-2 | #CanPLpic.twitter.com/s64m4Bottp

The last goal was very controversial. It will be talked about later in the article, but Zator looked like he did pull the player down. Zator’s shot was deflected, which allowed the ball to get past Ingham and tie the game late at York Lions Stadium.

Atlético Ottawa’s defence was solid, especially early in the first half when they had only 36 percent of the possession. They frustrated York United FC. This is especially important on the road against a good York team. It is unfortunate for Ottawa that the second goal scored counted, as the play leading up to the set-piece that led to the goal looked like a handball.
Both teams will play next week. Atlético Ottawa will play against Pacific FC on May 7 at 6:00 p.m. ET. The game will take place at TD Place Stadium. This is while York United FC hosts provincial rivals, Forge FC at York Lions Stadium, also on May 7. The game will take place at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Finally, both Atletico Ottawa and York United FC will play a Canadian Championship game at TD Place Stadium. The game will take place on May 10 at 7:00 p.m. ET. The winner will travel to Langford to face defending North Star Shield champions, Pacific FC. The game will take place somewhere from May 24-26. All the games mentioned will be shown live on OneSoccer and Telus.
Key Talking Points – Ballou Tabla scores his first-ever CPL goal

A late goal scored by #YorkUnitedFC’s Dominick Zator at the end of the game against #ForOttawa results in a 2-2 draw at #YorkLionsStadium.

Each team takes advantage of the other’s mistakes. Ballou Tabla scored his first-ever Canadian Premier League goal. Ballou Tabla, who formerly played for CF Montreal, scored his first-ever CPL goal for Atlético Ottawa. He took advantage of two defensive mistakes by York United FC. Then in De Rosario’s penalty goal, the penalty was created because of Ollie Bassett’s mistake.
Controversy late in the game. Going chronologically, first, is the red card. It is important to keep in mind that Cedric Toussaint was already on a yellow card before this play. Lastly, it is debatable whether the goal should have counted or not as Dominick Zator may have pulled an Atletico Ottawa player down. What was more controversial was the set piece that led to the goal. Chrisnovic N’sa looked like he committed a handball, but instead a foul was called on Keven Alemán.
The fourth draw between both CanPL teams. This was the teams’ seventh all-time match against each other with the other three games being York United FC wins.
