Why Dominik vs. Rey Mysterio Will Steal WrestleMania

Dominik Mysterio vs Rey Mysterio :WM39 Match Graphic

Father vs. Son is a tale as old as time and a good one at that. After months of build-up and back and forth…The Master Of The 619 Rey Mysterio will take on his self-absorbed son Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 39 in what should be a show-stealing match-up, but why is that?

Why Dominik vs Rey Mysterio Will Steal the Show in Hollywood

Long Term Story Telling

The first reason why is because of the long-term story that has been at play. When Mysterio’s son first entered the WWE, it was to be alongside his father and to assist him in bouts. We saw this with Dominik’s matches against Brock Lesnar and in their run for the Tag Team Championships.

Now, for months on end, the latest member of The Judgment Day has been antagonizing the former World Champion at every chance he gets. This was until Rey finally had enough on the latest episode of SmackDown. Another reason is how parallel the former Tag Team Champions are to one another. On one end, you have Rey Mysterio, a loving father who will sacrifice everything to give his family the life he was never able to have growing up.

For Dominik, the grass isn’t greener on the other side, as he sees Rey as someone who selfishly put his career and his love of pro wrestling before his family. Whether that was Rhea Ripley and the group manipulating the youngster or if that was Dominik’s true feelings all along remains to be seen.

Another thing that definitely adds fuel to the fire is Mysterio’s recent addition to the Hall of Fame Class of 2023 (which is rightly deserved). However, for Dominik Mysterio, it’s just another reminder of all the times Rey hadn’t been there for him growing up. So with the bout just a week away, who should have their hand raised?

Dominik vs Rey Mysterio: In Conclusion

With a match-up of this caliber, it could really go either way. If Rey wins, he can be shown as a legend who still has one trick up his sleeve and to humble his egotistical offspring. If Dominik wins, it can be shown as a passing of the torch, from one Mysterio to another, but it could also be said that the reason he may have wanted to fight his father this whole time was that he wanted to earn the respect and admiration that he was unable to receive while growing up due to Rey’s professional career in the squared circle.

However, with The Master Of the 619 becoming a first ballot Hall of Famer, with everything he’s accomplished from making a name for himself in WCW, to winning the World Championship at WrestleMania 22 and to defying the odds of what is viewed as a ‘Professional Wrestler’, what way would be more fitting then to retire on the grandest stage of them all and to ride off into the sunset? I can’t think of a more fitting way for Rey to hang up his boots and to pass on his legacy to his son; to make him realize what it really means to be a Mysterio.
