The Big Ten season is back, and Week 1 gave fans plenty of reasons to get excited. From Rutgers’ strong opener to Ohio State’s statement win, Noah Drury highlights how the first full weekend brought surprises and set early storylines for the year ahead.
Rutgers and Minnesota Show Promise
Big Ten Week 1 began with Rutgers holding off Ohio, powered by quarterback Gavin Wimsatt and a steady rushing attack. Minnesota also impressed against Buffalo. Freshman quarterback Drake Lindsey flashed potential, and the defense racked up tackles for loss while keeping the Bulls in check.
Nebraska and Wisconsin Handle Business
Nebraska’s defense set the tone against Cincinnati, limiting explosive plays and proving resilient after offseason coaching changes. The Huskers’ receivers, led by Dane Key, look like one of the best groups the program has seen in years. Wisconsin also took care of Miami (OH), leaning on physicality in the trenches. Still, questions remain about Luke Fickell’s long-term ceiling in Madison.
Ohio State’s Defense Steals the Show
The highlight of Big Ten Week 1 came when Ohio State edged Texas 14–7 in a defensive slugfest. Noah’s guest, Buckeyes sideline reporter Tyler Danberg, talks how new coordinator Matt Patricia dialed up pressure and confusion, rattling Arch Manning throughout the night. Buckeye defenders CJ Hicks and Jermaine Matthews Jr. showed how player development is paying off, while freshman quarterback Julian Sayin calmly managed the game. Danberg feels this group has the look of a championship contender.
Looking Ahead In The Big Ten
Michigan rolled past New Mexico with ease. Indiana and Maryland showed flashes but still left questions unanswered. Week 2 will feature Illinois against Duke, the always-entertaining Cy-Hawk game, and Michigan State’s primetime test at Boston College. The Big Ten race is only just beginning, so make sure you come along for the ride with Noah and Big Ten Paradigm.
