Earlier this morning it was announced by Mercedes that James Allsion is to join the outfit as their new Technical Director for 2017, with it being expected that the engineer will join the team at the start of March.
James Allison Set to Join Mercedes as new Technical Director
Throughout his career in Formula 1, Allison has experienced much success, leading both Ferrari and Renault to championships in senior management roles.
When asked about the role, Allison said that he was looking forward to the opportunity after being away from the sport for some time, and that he felt honored to join Mercedes after their successes in Formula 1 over the course of the last three years, aiming to help Mercedes to become stronger in the future.
From 2013-2016, Allison was part of Ferrari, after moving to the outfit after leaving the Lotus F1 Team. At Ferrari in this three year period, Allison carried out the roles of Chassis Technical Director and Technical Director, however, quit the role following the death of his wife.
When asked about Allison joining the team, Mercedes Team Boss, Toto Wolff said that he was excited to work with him and that he thinks that he has found the perfect man to fill the role at Mercedes.
