Sweet counters Schatz with Jokers Wild Win

Donny Schatz held off NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series points leader Brad Sweet to win the makeup night of #LetsRaceTwo on Wednesday at Eldora Speedway.

But less than 24 hours later, it was Sweet’s turn to park it in victory lane.

The pair of front runners for the 2019 points championship started next to each other on the front row to start things off, where Sweet immediately jumped to the lead.

Schatz would challenge the No. 49 multiple times during the 30-lap main event, but Sweet took care of business to earn his series-leading 10^th win of the season at the Jokers Wild.

Logan Schuchart followed up a P3 finish on Wednesday night with a P4 in the Joker in what has been an encouraging week for the Pennsylvania native.

David Gravel came home in third and continues to split the gap in the standings between second and fourth place.

If Gravel can get over the hump in either of the next two nights at Eldora, it could help propel him to a late-season run in the points championship.

However, no matter who is challenging, it seems as though Sweet and Schatz have such a jump on the field, and continue to hold off the field everywhere the series goes.

With how quick both teams are running at Eldora, don’t expect that to change to much either.

The Outlaws will return to the track for the second night of the Kings Royal event in Friday’s ‘The Knight Before’ which will pay $12,000 to win as opposed to $10,000 on Wednesday. Hot laps will begin at 6:30 p.m.
