I know, I know.
Picking the two previous winners from the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series weekend looks like a lazy move on my part.
I mean, surely there’s better storylines coming in to the Sprint Car Capital of the World than just the previous past pair of winners.
Although, I insist that you keep your eyes on both Logan Schuchart and Brad Sweet when the series comes to America’s heartland this weekend.
Schuchart, Sweet heat up as World of Outlaws Sprint Cars visit Knoxville
Both of the pair of drivers’ stock might be as high as it has been all season.
Schuchart captured yet another win for Shark Racing on Friday night in North Dakota, giving him a series-leading fourth win on the year.
Not only was that big for Schuchart, but he followed it up with a third-place finish at Granite City Speedway on Saturday.
If Schuchart can keep up the success, he’ll keep pulling away from Shane Stewart in the series standings and inching closer and closer to the top four in the standings.
Granite City was bigger, however, for Sweet.
The driver of the No. 49 NAPA Auto Parts car powered by Kasey Kahne Racing drove to a victory to take over the series points lead after Donny Schatz finished at the tail end of the field.
Sweet will be the biggest name to keep an eye on for a different reason, too.
After his commanding drive last fall, the Grass Valley, California native is the defending Knoxville Nationals champion.
Sweet overcame a charge from both Schatz and NASCAR veteran Kyle Larson showing that he has mastered the track like Schatz had when he during his pair of long win streaks.
Him and Schatz are the only two active, full-time WoO drivers to win the major money event, and conquer the half-mile that is Knoxville Raceway.
All of that being said, it’s still anyone’s race. This season has proved that no matter what night it is, anyone can take home the big check when it’s all said and done.
Jason Johnson Racing’s David Gravel has been hot as of late, too, passing Daryn Pittman in the Roth Motorsports entry for third place in the standings.
Each of them are making new rides for this season pay off so far and winning at Knoxville this weekend will be something that is utilized during Nationals week.
Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. on both nights and as always the action can be watched live on DirtVision.
The fans in Iowa will be in for a good show this weekend with the drivers that the series is bringing down.
Oh, and did we mention that the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is on a bye week?
