F2 Set to Wrap Up Thrilling 2025 Triple-Header in Spain

F2 concludes its first European triple-header of 2025 in Spain, with high heat and changing conditions set to play a key role in the races.

F2’s Next Stop in 2o25: Barcelona, Spain for the Latest Grand Prix Weekend

F2 returns to Spain after a chaotic Monaco round, which provided his fans with shocking moments and unexpected victories. Following the weekend, Luke Browning is now leading the championship, taking advantage of Alex Dunne’s DNF in the feature race.

Barcelona could be the stage for new developments in the standings, as it is a circuit that often provides spectacles for its attendees.

However, given the layout of the circuit and the high temperatures, tire degradation and track limits are two important topics this weekend. When the drivers exceed the allowed amount of time to go off track lines, they are subject to track limits penalties, which can alter the final results of every session of the weekend.

In addition, Barcelona will put an end to the first European triple header, and the drivers and the team could rest for almost a month before returning on track in Austria. Until then, they will have to get on speed since the first outing in free practice.

F2’s Last time in Barcelona

In 2024, Paul Aron achieved his first pole position in the series at Montmeló. The Estonian driver had left Monaco in the lead of the championship, thanks to a podium finish in the Feature Race. On Saturday, Kush Maini started on pole, but his first position did not last long, as he was quickly overtaken by Victor Martins in his Art Grand Prix.

The Frenchman achieved his first podium and victory of the year, after a complicated start of the season for him and the team. Maini and Juan Manuel Correa closed the podium, but the American Ecuadorian was penalised post-race due to the track limits.

In the Feature Race, Aron managed to keep the first position after the launch, but it only lasted until the pit stop. After this phase, Crawford overtook the Hitech driver and, while trying to catch him, Aron had an excursion into the gravel.

In the end, he had to settle for fourth place, while Correa climbed again to the podium in third, in front of Franco Colapinto and race winner Crawford. For Correa, this was his first podium since 2019.

Luke Browning Leads the Championship

Since the beginning of the year, F2 has had seven different drivers at the top of its drivers’ standings. This usually happens in competitive series, where talented drivers want to prove themselves to F1 teams for the following year.

Luke Browning is the leader of the 2025 F2 championship as the drivers head to Spain. Despite being a rookie, the Briton has made it clear that his goal is to win the title. He has the performances to boot; he has finished outside of the podium on two occasions.

The Williams Academy driver seems more determined than ever to prove himself, as we saw in Imola when he fought his teammate on track. If he can maintain this consistency, he may retain his lead after Barcelona.

Possible Strategies in 2025’s F2 Round in Spain

The first thing the teams and drivers will need to consider is the sequence of combined corners and the rapid changes of direction. This suggests that a medium-to-high downforce setup is preferable, as it will help extract more performance from the car.

It will also help to preserve the tyres, which typically suffer from significant degradation in Barcelona. For this reason, Pirelli has brought both the Hard and Soft compounds to the Sprint weekend, with the two expected to alternate during the Feature Race.

On Sunday, the quickest strategy appears to be starting on the Hard tyre and switching to the Soft. However, last year the grid was almost evenly split, with many drivers opting for the opposite strategy. This approach offers greater speed at the start, but it also requires careful tyre management until the pit stop window.
