NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Speedy Cash 250 at Texas Motor Speedway Preview

After a break in the racing action from Rockingham, the Craftsman Truck Series heads west to Fort Worth, Texas, and the Texas Motor Speedway. The eighth race of the 2025 season starts a sixth race stretch before the next off-week.

Last year’s race saw Kyle Busch take the truckers to school, leading 112 out of 167 for his second win in the series in 2024. Can the Spire Motorsports #7 Silverado go back-to-back with a Cup driver winning, or will a trucker beat the Cup driver?

Race Preview:

The Speedycash.com 250 at Texas Motor Speedway is the eighth race of the 2025 Truck Series season. It is a 250-mile, 167-lap race around the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway. Stage cautions will be on laps 40 and 80, and the checkered flag on lap 167. The prize purse is 782,900 dollars. The trucks will be running the same Goodyear tires previously used at Las Vegas this year.

The Track: Texas Motor Speedway

With construction beginning in 1995 and opening in 1996, the Texas Motor Speedway was constructed by Speedway Motorsports, which owns many tracks across the United States. It was originally constructed with 24 degrees of banking in turns 1-4, but in 2017, turns 1-2 were taken down to 20 degrees. The front and back straights have five degrees of banking. The 2017 repave also saw the track widen.

The late Kenny Irwin Jr. won the first Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. There is a tie between Todd Bodine and Kyle Busch for the most Truck Series wins, with six apiece. Matt Crafton holds the active record with two wins. Brett Moffit set the track record in 2018 with a 28.913-second lap time.

Who to Watch:

Some drivers are joining the field for the SpeedyCash 250. Brandon Jones is making another start for TRICON Garage in the #1 Tundra. Carson Hocevar takes over the #7 Silverado for Spire Motorsports, with Chili’s Ride the ‘Dente on the car. Nick Sanchez will run both Trucks and Xfinity this weekend, piloting the #07 Chevy.

Corey Heim, again, is the fastest every weekend. He ran second to Busch in 2024 and won Las Vegas on the same tire they are using this weekend. Heim is only as good as his equipment, and if he has a good Toyota underneath him, he is the favorite to win.

The Spire Trucks have run well at this track in the past. Rajah Caruth was the highest finishing truck at Vegas, coming in seventh. Nick Sanchez ran third to Busch in 2024, with Caruth finishing twelfth. Sanchez ran third to Heim and Busch in 2024, he is fast here as well.  With Carson Hocevar, who picked up his first Truck series win at Texas in 2023, behind the wheel, I think they could be contenders to win in Fort Worth for Chevrolet.

Chandler Smith and Layne Riggs have put the ‘blue-ovals’ on their backs this season. With 1 win, 5-top top-fives, and 9 top-tens this season, they are contenders each weekend. Riggs ran great at Las Vegas earlier in the year, finishing fifth, and Smith eighth. Riggs did not finish great in his first attempt, with it being a DNF. Look for the Front Row Fords to be upfront.
